School 2.0-NETS Awareness

School 2.0 virtual environment, giving the ability to post classroom or school oriented information. I used this school 2.0 to fulfill NETS 1 and 5.

Reflection Results

NETS-T(#1): Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity
I chose this NET standard because I find it hard to facilitate technology for younger children. Technology has the ability to really get a student engaged and inspired with learning but it is hard to know how to use it or when to use it in the classroom. I did more research on the “Web 2.0 tools for young learners” journal article to learn about more technology tools that can be used with younger students who are not so acquainted with technology yet. This journal article had some great go-to technology tools that are going to help inspire students and help under-funded teachers. I was really interested in Voki which is a text to speech generator. This generator has many different applications and is perfect for reading new spelling words and even students who speak a different language. I also looked into Glogster, which is referred to as an interactive poster. I personally enjoy creating posters and I learn easily from them. I thought this was a great resource to use in place of boring power points or life-less posters. The Glogster is embedded with media links, sound, and it has video capabilities as well. Students will certainly have fun working together or individually on a poster with this interactive tool.

NETS- T(#5): Engage in Professional grown and leadership
I chose a blog from this standard that talks about a virtual school in Florida that is a child friendly social media site that works to provide online learning to k-12 students. This website is provided in all 50 states in 67 countries around the world. I thought this was a great way for students and parents to be involved in school. It helps to access school’s online resources like tutoring and online books. I would definitely try to engage my students and their parents to look into this internet based school to see how well they work with this social media site.
